Do you like to get together with your buddies for a girl chat? Life is so busy; it’s hard to find time when everyone is available. Couple times per year I try to connect with my girls and the week between Christmas and New Year’s presents a great opportunity as many folks have time off work, time to relax and even a few are in town for the Holiday.
So…. last December I invited five friends to join me for lunch. After a few text messages, everyone was on board for an afternoon of fun and food. The event planner in me kicked and I had to select the perfect environment conducive to girlfriend chat. Also I wanted to add a little somethin’ somethin’ for the girls to the mix.
The Location: I selected Seasons 52 as the menu offers a variety of truly tasty items and mini desserts. As their slogan says…. they deliver “the best of each season straight to your table.“
The Gift: Hmmm what could I create that would be quick from a project perspective and meaningful at the same time?

I wanted a quick project since I had five to create and only a few days. I searched my craft room for ideas and the something quick turned out to be a coaster for their coffee/tea time; not the standard old-school coaster, but I wanted something delicate and lacy. One of my favorite books jumped out at me: 100 Snowflakes to Crochet by Caitlin Sainio (you can find it on Amazon). I love this book because it offers so many projects that you can make from decorations, banners, and in my case – Coasters!
Upon first look, the pattern looked confusing, but I was up for the challenge. Here’s the beginning….
Once I got going, the pattern contained repeats on most of the rows and I found it wasn’t as difficult as it looked. Before I knew it – I had one snowflake completed!
Notice the project is not laying flat, so to add a bit of stiffness; I sprayed fabric starch and applied a light iron. TIP: Surround project in cotton cloth for protection when you iron and then remove cloth to let the project dry. You can also purchase fabric stiffener at your local craft store or online at Amazon.

Perfect Shade of Blue
Guess I am on a roll this week with the use of picture frames – see my blog post THAT BORING BLANK WALL.
I finished all five coasters, choose one of my favorite added printables to the frames and there you have it – A gift set that required a small amount of time and cost, yet was given with a large amount of loving care.
My girl’s loved their gift sets and I even received several texts the next day telling me how they enjoyed their coffee and coaster that morning. Not only was this a fun project for me, it was also a reminder for me (and my girls) to set aside special time for ourselves daily!
