I am so happy to report that a new baby came into our lives recently. My first thought was what could I make for a baby gift? I vacillated between a hat (so standard), a rag quilt or a crocheted blanket.
I don’t know about you but when I am looking for inspiration, one of my first stops is Pinterest! Soo… I headed to Pinterest to see what ideas might come my way. Of course that led to a session of more projects to Pin, blogs to visit and patterns to consider. Eventually I came across the fluffiest yarn with an easy pattern – doesn’t get much better than that!
The pattern I selected was the Bernat Puffy Baby Blanket http://www.yarnspirations.com/patterns/puffy-baby-blanket.html on the Yarnspirations site. It was a free pattern, fairly easy, and it appeared to be a pretty fast project. Oh yeah – what I didn’t mention was that my husband and I were going to meet the baby within a matter of days so I had to get moving!
I printed the pattern and headed to my local Joann’s Fabric store – Yep my husband is beginning to love that parking lot. You see he has no issue stopping by, but doesn’t always enjoy the visit as much as I do ☺ I think it says a lot that he doesn’t mind waiting, however as I recall he came inside given we were experiencing triple digit temps.
So my friends….here is the what I call the Softest Baby Blanket I have ever made.
I chose the color way Little Cosmos as I liked the beige and blue combination and since the little one was a boy. There were only a few skeins on the shelf so I then had to consider a Plan B in case I ran out of yarn. My decision was to incorporate a solid complementary color, therefore I selected Vanilla. The next decision? Where do I add the second color yarn? As you can see I decided to add a border and break up the variegated pattern by inserting a middle border.
Great project, it was fun and quick to make and I think it got a thumbs up, when the baby’s Dad said he may even curl up in it☺
